Amanda is a graduate of the VCU School of Nursing earning her Masters degree with a concentration in Family Medicine. Her training rotations in family medicine were diverse and include the following: Downtown Family Practice in Charlottesville Va, the VCU Plastic Surgery Department in Richmond, Va, Pariser Dermatology in Virginia Beach, and the Vernon J. Harris Medical Center in Richmond Va, which provided a foundationally diverse skill set. Amanda has been in health care since 2009. Her career began at the Evans Haynes Burn center at VCU Medical Center, where she provided care across the lifespan ranging in acuity from intensive care to outpatient care. As Amanda reflects back on her experiences at the burn center, she states: “ this is where I learned the art of medicine.” It was within the walls of a place where no patient ever leaves quite the same, neither physically or mentally that she learned that one’s practice is not just about prescribing a medication, making a diagnosis, healing a wound, or successfully resuscitating someone back to life; most-often it is about recognizing a basic human need that each human being has, both young and old, which is the desire to BOTH understand and BE understood; and the very best way to understand is to listen. In addition to Amanda’s skin/wound healing expertise, she has experience providing psychiatric outpatient care to both children and adults. She is an active member of the Virginia Council of Nurse Practitioners, American Nurses Credentialing Center, American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, Holistic Nurses Association, and the Virginia Nurses Association. She resides in Richmond with her husband and 3 dogs. Outside of work, Amanda finds great joy in traveling, being outdoors, riding horses, making cheesecakes, learning, ballet, live music, volunteering, and spending time with her family and dogs.
